Pet Therapy

Make Someone Smile and Join Naperville Area Humane Society's PAWSitive Therapy Team!

PAWSitive volunteers visit area senior centers with their own dog or a Naperville Area Humane Society (NAHS) shelter dog. All PAWSitive Therapy dogs are well behaved and current on vaccinations. NAHS works with volunteers and facilities to ensure a perfect match for both parties.

Some of the PAWSitive dogs are rescued, each having their own stories to tell, and we believe that people can relate to their hardships, often comparing their own stories to the dog’s stories of fear, loneliness, and neglect.

However, we believe the program goes much deeper as the human-animal bond is very powerful.  Interaction with the dog and his unconditional love and limitless patience, is an experience that cannot be described.

We continually seek additional volunteer-dog teams and facilities to participate in our program. Becoming a part of NAHS’ PAWSitive Therapy program is a very rewarding experience, and we are incredibly lucky to have over 20 volunteers.  All volunteer-dog teams consist of a patient human listener and a calm dog with lots of love to give.

As a PAWSitive volunteer you will visit area senior centers with your own dog or a NAHS shelter dog. Your dog needs to be well behaved and current on vaccinations. There are numerous facilities throughout the surrounding communities that would like visits from our volunteers. We will work with you to find the right facility and the right schedule. There are facilities that would like visits during weekdays, weeknights and weekends.
